Northwestern transportation faculty and students attend TRB 2022
Read about their contributions to the advancement of transportation research.
Northwestern faculty, over 25 Northwestern students, and NUTC staff attended The Transportation Research Board’s 101st Annual Meeting in Washington, D.C. in January. They joined thousands who work or study in the transportation field and gathered to engage in over 400 workshops, committee meetings, lectures, and poster sessions. Some of the Northwestern participants include:
- Max Ng who presented on rail research conducted with Professors Hani Mahmassani and Joseph Schofer at a lectern and two poster sessions, respectively “Resilience of Rail Intermodal Freight during the Covid-19 Pandemic,” “How Well did Rail and Intermodal Freight Respond to the COVID-19 Pandemic vs.the Great Recession?, and “Econometric Analysis of Pandemic Disruption and Recovery Trajectory in the Rail Freight Industry.”
- Elisa Borowski and Professor Amanda Stathopoulos presented two new papers, including "Changes in Social Support Networks Across Physical and Virtual Spaces During the COVID-19 Pandemic" that compared the experiences of young adults across gender, racial, and sexual identities at a lectern session.
- Christopher Cummings presented research on urban air mobility at a lectern session, “Measuring the Impact of Air Traffic Flow Restrictions using 4-D System Fundamental Diagrams for Urban Air Mobility” and a poster session, ACRP Student Paper: “Air Traffic Flow Models for Varying Airspace Structures and Heading Ranges.” Both papers were in collaboration with Professor Hani Mahmassani.
- Maher Said and Divyakant presented papers “Latent Transition Analysis of Consumer Spending Behavior and Adaptation Across Online and In-Person Channels Through the Pandemic” and “For Whom Did Telework Not Work During the Pandemic? Understanding the Factors Impacting Telework Satisfaction Using a Multiple Indicator Multiple Cause (MIMIC) Model” at poster sessions on telemobility and telework during the COVID-19 pandemic (with Professors Mahmassani, Susan Shaheen (UC Berkeley), Stathopoulos, and Joan Walker (UC Berkeley).
- In the poster session on Impacts of the COVID-19 Pandemic on Activities and Travel, Sharika Hegde and Hoseb Abkarian presented “Characterizing Ride-hailing Driver Attrition and Supply in the City of Chicago through the COVID-19 Pandemic” (with Professor Mahmassani).
- Adrian Hernandez presented “Bus Transit Automation: Conceptual Framework for Technology Deployment and System-Level Impacts” (with Professor Mahmassani) at the Simulation, Human Behavior, and Infrastructure for Evacuations poster session.
