Mort Fuller has been Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of Genesee & Wyoming Inc. (“GWI”) since 1977. Based in Greenwich, CT, GWI is a leading operator of short line and regional freight railroads. In 1977, when Mort purchased a controlling interest in the Company and became its Chief Executive Officer, the Company operated a single 14-mile railroad that generated $3.9 million in operating revenues. As a result of the Company’s acquisition and marketing strategies, the Company and its affiliates have grown to own 49 railroads that operate over approximately 5,900 miles of track in Australia, Bolivia, Canada, Mexico and the United States and to operate over more than 3,700 additional miles under track access arrangements. GWI went public in June 1996 and is currently listed on the New York Stock Exchange (NYSE) under the ticker “GWR”. Mort received his undergraduate degree from Princeton University,
a law degree from the Boston University School of Law and an MBA
from Harvard Business School. He also serves on the Board of Directors
of the Association of American Railroads, which represents the
major freight railroads of the United States, Canada and Mexico.
He has served as a director of the American Short Line and Regional
Railroad Association and was a founding member of the Regional
Railroads of America, serving on that Association’s executive
committee until its merger with the ASLRA. He also served as a
director of Detection Systems, Inc. until its acquisition by Robert
Bosch GmbH in January 2001. |
